In Seven of Wands, a man defends himself against six unseen attackers. Though the odds are against him, he has the upper ground, literally and symbolically. In most Wands cards, we see the energy and passion of this suit being put towards creation and moving things forward. But here, that same energy needs to be used to defend what has been previously created. 

 

This is the paradox of the Chariot, the 7th card of the Major Arcana to which this card is connected. For progress to be made, we must stand our ground. Others may think we're making the wrong decisions or have the wrong ideals. But if we are able to reject their criticisms after fair consideration, then we must not waver. No, we need to muster confidence, courage and perseverance and stand by the course we have chosen. Never be afraid to take a stand, stand up for yourself. The very fact that you experience resistance means that at the very least, you're thinking for yourself and following your own path.

 

In line with the message of the Chariot, we need to keep focusing on our purpose and unify our energy to overcome this resistance. Prove yourself to yourself, first, before hoping to convince your opponents or win public acceptance.
