Eight Wands hurtle across the sky; 'swoosh!' This is a card of action at a fast pace. When we channel our energy and passion efficiently, we can make swift progress and be really productive. The maiden in the related Strength card demonstrates how this is done. We need that energy to go fast, but we also need to know when to run and when to slow down (and be able to switch between these two modes quickly). 

 

However, realize that taking this approach only works when a) we're able to summon the energy to drive it, b) the road is clear of distractions and obstacles (or we make it so), and c) we know what we're doing and where we want to go. In that aspect, Eight of Wands represents the turbo booster option in video games. For a while, it allows you to go really fast, but you need to apply it on a suitable part of the track to make the best use of it. Otherwise, a big crash is imminent.
