THE SECULAR TAROTIST
tarot without the mysticism

A lovely maiden has complete control over a fierce lion, using nothing but her bare hands. She tames the beast, not with agression and brute force, but with an inner strength that is both gentle and firm. Her touch is accepting and full of understanding and acceptance. Taming a lion isn't easy, but the maiden courageously perseveres.
The card Strength shows us that if we bring our wild passions under control, we can not only prevent damage, but also benefit. The energetic roar of the lion is not necessarily a bad thing. If we channel its power into well-advised pursuits, it is vital - the lion and the maiden both benefit. In this, the lion is to the maiden like fire is to mankind; powerful and dangerous, but wonderful and transforming when we learnt to use it to our advantage.
As the 8th card of the Major Arcana, Strength is connected to the Eights of the Major Arcana, which show us how taming aspects of ourselves (or stop doing so) can allow us to transcend our difficulties.
