Three of Cups shows three maidens celebrating together, cups raised in unison. Their bond connects them deeply and harmoniously; they are in tune with each other. They may be sisters or close friends. Connected to the Empress, the Threes are all about creation and growth, especially through nurturing and devotion. Three of Cups is therefore about the loving bonds we create when we invest in each other emotionally. 

 

Positive social contact and a sense of community are vital for our happiness, so make sure you maintain your friendships and allow yourself to enjoy them regularly. Perhaps this card tells you to:

• reach out to someone you haven't heard from in a while

• spend more quality time with someone

• realize that you've been isolating yourself

• reach out for support

• share

• tell someone how much you appreciate having them in your life

• feel grateful for all the love you receive (and give)

• actively celebrate and indulge one another's company

 

It's interesting to note that the Rider-Waite deck (and many decks inspired by it) has the maidens dance in a field of autumn crops, seemingly celebrating the abundant harvest. The fruits of good friendships are a lot like the autumn harvest. We've watered and fertilized these crops when we could, nurturing them throughout the growing season. When the lean winter comes and we don't have much to offer, they'll take care of us - standing by us through thick and thin.
