THE SECULAR TAROTIST
tarot without the mysticism

A man and a woman encounter each other under the watchful eye of an angel. In their meeting they find unexpected harmony and recognition. All of the corresponding Sixes in the Minor Arcana are about this harmony, about two parties completing each other through a give-and-take balance.
Because this recognition comes so unexpectedly, it can be quite confusing. Like a romantic crush, it messes up all your plans and forces you to make an impromptu choice. Can you hope to make a clear-headed and well-advised choice in this state?
The two figures on this card are like Adam and Eve; by eating from the Tree of Knowledge they choose to know each other and to be known. Many tarot interpretations feel that this card is very much defined by this choice to eat the Fruit of Knowledge, the choice to give into temptation - or conversely, the choice to withstand it. Neither choice is wrong. This card doesn't necessarily urge you to 'go for it'. But when you do, be aware that you are going off the deep end, being cast out of a peaceful Eden into the outer world. And when you do, realize that you might regret it.
